Dumangas, ang banwa ko

May 5 is my hometown’s fiesta. Happy Fiesta to all Dumangasanons worldwide!

Dumangas is situated at the South Eastern part of Panay Island, a coastal town in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. Basically, Dumangas is an agricultural and fishing Municipality. Although considered a fishing town, its major product is agricultural, as most of its areas are devoted to farming. Tracing back hundreds of years ago, Dumangas started as a settlement or Barangay named Araut in 1212 AD. Its early inhabitants which was believed to be a group of Shri-Visayan Malays, brought with them their culture, adapted their form of government, and made use of what nature had provided for them, thus, they made clearings and tilled the soil, planted seeds such as rice, corn and mangoes. All throughout, mangoes grew abundantly, that the name “Dumangas” had later been derived which meant “Duro Manggas” or many mangoes.
